Community Ministries
The Office of Community Ministries supports, directs, and coordinates the work of the church as it follows Jesus’ command to “love our neighbor as ourselves” – and as we move our worship out into the world, whether around the corner, around the diocese or around the globe.
- It works to assist every parish and member of the diocese to reflect theologically and practically on issues of poverty, social justice and advocacy. It also provides a corporate voice for the diocese as it engages government entities and public policy at every level.
- It helps parishes and individuals discern where their gifts for ministry intersect with the needs of the world, helping us all to share the Good News of God in Christ in the manner of St. Francis of Assisi when he said, “Preach the Gospel at all times; use words if necessary.”
The work of Episcopal Charities Foundation is a major effort of the office, and it also coordinates the ministries of the Commission on Anti-racism, the Global Mission Committee, the Millennium Development Goals Task Force, A.B.L.E. and other community organizing efforts, the Atlanta chapter of Episcopal Peace Fellowship and interfaith activities. Newer initiatives include the Task Force on Disabilities, the Task Force on Environmental Stewardship, and efforts focused on ministry to military personnel and to those in prison.
