Teaching: CALL offers online courses to clergy and congregations
[CDSP] The Center for Anglican Learning and Leadership (CALL) at Church Divinity School of the Pacific (CDSP) in Berkeley, California, recently announced a series of online courses for churches seeking to update and expand adult education offerings.
"Since its beginning, CALL has worked closely with congregations, dioceses, and ministry networks through the Church to offer opportunities for all Christians -- lay and ordained -- to deepen their faith, learn new skills, and enhance their gifts for effective leadership," said David T. Gortner, director of CALL. "Accessibility is the key. It's exciting to see the
increase in students from around the country, and even internationally, enrolling in our online courses."Classes such as Total Ministry in Any Size Parish; Making Choices: Ethics in the Anglican Tradition; Introduction to the Old Testament: Law and Former Prophets; Contemplative Practices in the Anglican Tradition; and Islam for Christians, are among more than 40 classes that have been designed specifically for parishes.
Reaching beyond parishioners in the pews, a number of online classes are designed specifically for clergy and other church professionals who are required by the canons to participate in ongoing education. They include:
* It's Not Your Father's Pledge Drive
* Systems in Families and Congregations

Online Courses for CEUs
Taking a CALL Online Course Is Easy!
Many online classes offered by CALL are part of a series of courses in a particular field of study. Most series are offered in a two-year cycle, so courses not offered in the current year will be scheduled during the next academic year.
Those who wish to obtain Continuing Education Credits [CEUs] for online courses must do the weekly reading assignments, participate on the Discussion Board each week, and complete a 3-5 page integrating paper assigned by the instructor. Only those who obtain CEUs for each class in a series will be eligible to receive the certificate of completion for the series.
Cost of online courses is $175 per person. When at least three people register as a group, the cost is $135 per person. Current members of the North American Association for the Diaconate [NAAD] are entitled to register at the group rate.
Visit their online course website
- All courses last 7 weeks. No academic credit is earned for CALL online classes.
- Classes take place on a password-protected website.
- All courses are asynchronous; you participate when it’s most convenient for you instead of having to be online at a set time.
- Some classes require a text readily available from online sources; others use materials posted to the website, or a combination. If the readings posted online are extensive, a CD will be made available to participants to expedite opening and downloading files.
- Participants read the material assigned each week, including an integrating essay by the instructor, then respond to questions on the Discussion Board, and to replies by others.
- There are no grades, but participants may receive 2 CEUs per course. To receive CEUs, you must participate in the weekly Discussion Board and complete a short integrating assignment.
- Technical requirements are a computer with internet access and basic computer skills like word processing and opening PDF documents using Adobe Acrobat Reader [available free online, and already installed on newer computers].
- Cost of each course is $175 per person. There is a $40 per person discount [$135] for groups of three or more.
- You can complete your registration, including credit card payment, online!

In addition to many general interest courses, CALL offers several series of online classes for those who wish to pursue a comprehensive study in specific areas. Course descriptions indicate if a class is part of a series.

Drew University- Doctor of Ministry Program
What Is The Doctor Of Ministry Degree?
You did well in seminary. You have your M.Div. You have been in ministry for several years now. You feel a need to refresh your mind and spirit. You are ready for the next level of ministry. It's time for a Doctor of Ministry degree! Drew is the place to be!
Here at Drew you will study with a world-class faculty in a highly respected program in the company of your professional peers. Both our regional and global/online D.Min. programs are praxis driven and academically-grounded, featuring a variety of learning methods and venues. You take 3 courses during the first year, 3 courses during an intensive summer residential program, and spend the next two years designing and implementing your project and writing the doctoral thesis.
Our mission is to prepare and credential selected ministerial leaders for 21st century realities in the church and community. Toward this aim, we offer a variety of program options. Tomorrow's spiritual leaders will be change agents called upon to exegete postmodern culture and create new narratives, images and imperatives of ministry for the Third Millennium. We hope you will join us in this sacred endeavor. As Drew's Dr. Len Sweet advocates, "Carpe diem!"
