Famed English choir performs twice in Columbus

by staff

The Choir of Gloucester Cathedral will stop in Columbus for two performances at Trinity Episcopal Church.

The Choir of Gloucester Cathedral will visit Trinity Episcopal Church, 1130 First Ave., Columbus, for a concert and an Evensong service as part of a four-city North American tour.

The choir of 18 boys and 12 men will perform at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, presenting English music for organ, choir, and bass drum.  Included are the music of Byrd, Vaughan Williams and Weelkes, as well as a set of spirituals. There is limited seating, but free tickets can be obtained by calling 706-322-5569.

The community is invited to a service of Choral Evensong at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 9. The choir will sing traditional Anglican choral music, including Stanford's "Beati Quorum Vir" and Blair's Evening Service in B Minor.  This Evensong will be held in observance of the Feast of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a theologian killed in 1945 for resisting the Nazi government of Germany.

The Rev. Canon Neil Heavisides, precentor of Gloucester Cathedral, will be the guest officiant and preacher.  Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. in the parish hall for a nominal cost.
