Twelve years ago, Sandra and Martin McCann left Columbus, Georgia, to become missionaries in Tanzania, Africa, the Anglican Diocese of Central Tanganyika.
The Rev. Sandra McCann continues as the communications director and chaplain for Msalato Theological College. Her major endeavor over the past five years has been to create an endowment for scholarships and faculty salaries for the college. The Footsteps in Faith Endowment Fund was launched in 2009 at the Annual Diocesan Council by the Rev. Canon Charles Roper. The immediate goal of $1 million of gifts-in-hand and pledges was reached in January of this year!
Martin McCann, M.D., opened the first histopathology laboratory in central Tanzania in 2004. It has grown by leaps and bounds with the laboratory now serving more than 20 hospitals and clinics. In 2014 Dr. McCann received 2200 surgical specimens for diagnosis and performed more than 1,200 fine-needle aspiration biospsies.
Both members of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Columbus, Georgia, they will return to live in the U.S. at the end of 2015.
