Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking Commission
Announcing SOAP UP Atlanta at Annual Council
The Commission on Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking (DMST) is moving forward in its mission of reducing
the numbers of innocent children abused, tortured, and raped in GA. Each child endures as many as
ten men or more every day. According to Center for Public Policy Studies, it is estimated that 374 girls
are commercially sexually exploited monthly in Georgia. Average age of entry into the commercial sex
market for girls is 12 and 14 years.
SOAP UP Atlanta will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church on January 26, 2019 from 9:30am – 3:30pm,
a week before the Super Bowl. It is documented that sex trafficking increases during large sporting
events. Our goal is to save children by delivering bars of soap with the national hot line number to all
hotels/motels surrounding the Mercedes Benz stadium.
Theresa Flores, a survivor, will tell her story and train everyone on DMST 101 and how to approach and
train the hotel staff.
Come by our table and learn more about SOAP and child sex trafficking. We will have experienced
volunteers there to answer your questions and provide material including talking with your kids about

Mark your Calendars for SOAP UP Atlanta! On Saturday, January 26, 2019, from 9:30am-3:30pm, the Commission invites representatives from all 114 worshiping communities in the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta to participate in SOAP UP Atlanta, an educational and interactive service event. We will learn from the founder of S.O.A.P., Theresa Flores, who will share her personal experience of being trafficked at age 15. And we will prepare to distribute the soap we label (with the National Trafficking Hotline) to the hotels surrounding the Mercedes Benz stadium. We will do this work just before Super Bowl 2019 is hosted in Atlanta; sex trafficking is known to increase around such large events. SOAP UP Atlanta event will be held at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 634 W. Peachtree Street, NW, Atlanta, GA 30308 (at the North Ave MARTA station).

Survivor: “Silence rings in the ear of every victim with piercing familiarity”.
Help us break the silence. We need 2-3 volunteers from each Parish to deliver 40,000 little bars of soap with the national hotline on the label to be placed in strategic locations within the hotels. 200 volunteers will gather in the morning, receive training and deliver soap and Missing Children’s Posters in the afternoon to the hotels. 36 missing children were recovered within a week of last year’s Super Bowl in Houston, Texas.

The Commission on Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking (DMST) in the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta will serve as a body of concerned lay and clergy representatives who will provide resources to, network with, and propose appropriate actions and/or legislation for parishes and
other organizations to end the sex trafficking of minors.
We strongly recommend, that in accordance with Resolution R17-4, parishes and worshiping communities of the Diocese of Atlanta post the Georgia Anti-Trafficking Poster.
